Contrary to reports that the dawn-to-dusk bandh called by farmers and traders associations in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry was peaceful, a disabled man’s Karnataka registered vehicle was pelted with bricks and stones by 10 people on Friday morning.

The custom-made vehicle was parked near his house in Auroville in Puducherry.

According to a TOI report, Soumitro Sen Gupta was with his six-year-old daughter and his mother when his car was attacked at around 10am.

The windshield and windows of the vehicle were damaged in the attack.

The gang allegedly tried to attack Soumitro’s driver, but he escaped injuries as he ran into the house for safety. They also tried to attack Soumitro’s mother and daughter when they came out on hearing the noise, reported TOI.

“The attackers did not look like people affiliated to any political party,” TOI quoted Sumitro as saying.

The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) and the DMK supported the bandh called by several Tamil outfits, on Friday, to condemn the violence against Tamils in Karnataka in the wake of Cauvery row. The bandh was also in protest of the Karnataka government's stand on sharing Cauvery water with Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In Puducherry, daily life was partially affected, as many shops were shut through the day. The Puducherry Road Transport Corporation, which operated buses in the morning, suspended its services after a bus was damaged by miscreants.​
