56 killed in clashes between Nigerian security forces and Boko Haram

Abuja: At least 56 people were killed in clashes between security forces and Islamist militant group Boko Haram in Nigeria's Borno state, a media report said Monday.

According to officials, the terrorists attacked military bases while the troops were out on patrol, Xinhua reported.

The victims included five soldiers and a senior military official.

The troops on patrol around Baga area of the state recovered explosives and rifles concealed in a truck loaded with fish and other commodities, the official said.

Four suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
