Malayam actor and director Sreenivasan was hospitalised in Kerala late on Tuesday night.

The 61-year-old actor who resides in Kochi, was rushed to Aster Medicity hospital in the district.

Reports suggest that his condition is stable but he still remains in the ICU of the hospital. However, doctors say that he is out of danger.

Though initially the hospital PRO had told news agency PTI that the actor had suffered a stroke, his son Vineeth Sreenivasan took to Facebook saying that his father only had a variation in blood sugar levels.

“My father was admitted to the hospital following a variation in blood sugar levels. The doctor has recommended staying in the hospital tonight and discharging him tomorrow. I request everyone not to spread baseless news. Thanks everyone,” Vineeth posted on Facebook.

Sreenivasan made his debut in the Malayalam film industry in the 1970s as an actor, and went on to become an acclaimed script writer and director over the years.

He is known for his satirical scripts and movies on politics and social life.

Sreenivasan recently acted in Daivame Kaithozham K Kumarakanam, directed by Salim Kumar.

The actor-director has also won several awards for his work, including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film in 1989 for Vadakkunokkiyantram, and National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues in 2000 for Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala.

He has also won a Filmfare Award for Best Director – Malayalam for Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, besides bagging a Filmfare Award for Best Film – Malayalam in 2008 for Katha Parayumbol.

In September last year, Sreenivasan was in the news, after he came out in support of his colleague Dileep, who was in judicial custody for his alleged role in the abduction and sexual assault of a Malayalam actor.

Following this, Sreenivasan’s house was vandalised, with black oil being smeared on both sides of the front gate and on the name board of the house.

At the time, he said, "I did not support Dileep. I merely said that having known Dileep for so many years, I don't believe he could have done something so heinous. The police can prove the crime. But if those who speak for him are influencing the case and witnesses, then aren't those who are against him also not influencing the case with their statements?"
