The police team, which is investigating the death of a ten-year old girl at Kundara in Kollam, will approach the court seeking permission for subjecting the mother and grandfather to a lie detector test.

The police will file a plea before the court on Saturday seeking permission to carry out the lie detector test. This comes against the backdrop of the two accused frequently changing their statements to the police.

“We assume that the mother and the grandfather know vital information that may help to unravel the mystery in the death of the minor. They haven’t revealed yet what situation prevailed at home which upset the girl. They are not cooperating with the investigation team. First we are seeking permission for subjecting the two accused to a lie detector test. We will decide later about the other accused,” S Surendran, Superintendent of Police Kollam Rural, who is monitoring the probe, told The News Minute.

The 10-year-old girl was found hanging at her house on January 15. Police initially registered a case of unnatural death. There were lapses on the part of the police in the initial phase though the autopsy report revealed that the girl was sexually assaulted. The chief minister had also acknowledged the lapses in the investigation, for which Circle Inspector of police Kundara was suspended on Wednesday.

There are nine accused in the case including the girl’s mother, grandfather and a few neighbours. A suicide note was found near the body of the girl, which reportedly said that the tensed atmosphere inside the house prompted her to take the extreme step.
