Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the centre to extend the deadline for using the demonetised notes till December 30, and has also alleged that the big players had been aware of the move. 

Vijayan said that the deadline should be extended for the sake of convenience of the people, and that the government should have put in place a proper system before undertaking such a drive.

He alleged that big companies and black money holders knew in advance and the central government's decision had been leaked to some quarters before the government's move.  

“A discreet move was established earlier by the government to help black money lobbyists transfer their illegal money.  Those with black money have no issues but the common people are the worst sufferers,” Pinarayi told Mathrubhumi.

The demonetization has created several problems for common people. People are facing tough time paying bills in hospitals and shops, as government is unable to give assurance on when the new currency would come into circulation.

The CM also pointed out that the fuel stations in the country are working and fuel supply is intact. “We all know the special relations between the central government and Reliance, which is the biggest player in the petroleum sector in the country,” he told Asianet News.

On Thursday state government wrote a letter to centre demanding  permission to the district cooperative banks to exchange demonetised notes with other notes. 

In the letter he also said that there was a lack of clarity in the norms related to demonetised notes.  

It was reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech had pointed out that the state transport corporation, crematoriums, milk booths and supermarkets of cooperative societies can accept such notes, such a directive was absent in the order issued by the RBI, he said.
