Police in Kerala have detained four DYFI members for allegedly hacking a Congress youth worker to death in Alappuzha in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kumar (29) who was previously a CPI (M) member and later joined the Congress.

Police sources said Youth Congress worker Sunil Kumar was woken up from sleep at 2 AM on Tuesday morning by eight activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of CPI(M), and attacked as he ran out of the house.

Kumar suffered serious injuries on his hands and legs and later succumbed to his wounds, police said. The victim was said to have been a DYFI activist earlier.

The CPI (M) has stated that they don’t have any link to the incident.

Haripad Circle Inspector Manoj I told The News Minute that Sunil had a clash with some others three days ago which led to the murder.

The deceased is survived by his wife and mother.
