The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple’s expert committee assigned to list the treasures in vaults of the temple has sought the permission of the apex court to open Vault B. The committee which has been listing the treasures of the vaults of the temple since 2011 has finished all its listing except in vault B. Opening of vault B was opposed by the Thiruvananthapuram royal family, which owned the temple earlier.

“Inventorying work began in 2011 and we have compiled the entire data and handed it over to the temple administrative committee led by the district judge. Along with our latest affidavit dated January 30 submitted to the Supreme Court on February 3, we have also submitted the recorded observations opposing the opening of vault B. We have not recommended or opposed the opening of vault B. A decision on that is left to the Supreme Court,“ expert committee coordinator M Velayudhan Nair, who is also the former head of Delhi based National Museum Institute (NMI)'s department of conservation told The Times of India.

The expert committee has also reportedly submitted a feasibility report to the Supreme Court on creating a museum of international standards to house the treasures in the vaults of the temple.
