The Congress-led opposition in Kerala continued to demand the resignation of Minister for Health and Social Justice, KK Shailaja over her nepotism charge on Tuesday.

According to the High Court judgment, the Minister misused her position and extended the final date of application to appoint members to the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

The Court declared two appointments to the Commission as null and void.

Five opposition MLAs – Roji M John, Eldhose Kunnappilly, VP Sajeendran, TV Ibrahim and M Shamshuddin – have been fasting in front of the Assembly Complex since yesterday. The ongoing session of the Kerala Assembly concludes on Thursday. 

The opposition said that if the minister doesn’t resign by the end of the session, the fast would be indefinite.The opposition stopped Zero Hour in the Assembly, demanding the Minister’s resignation.

The leader of the opposition, Ramesh Chennithala, demanded a response from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Chief Minister, however, has maintained that Shailaja will not resign, and that they will convince the court of the truth.

Chennithala added that the opposition would organise protests in all assembly constituencies across the state.

The opposition said that it wouldn’t take part in any discussion in the assembly regarding the Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admission to Private Medical Education Institutions) Bill, a bill that was moved by Shailaja.
