After Krishna Jayanti celebrations, Kerala CPI (M) to now ‘support’ Navarathri celebrations

Following the controversy over CPI (M)’s Onam festival celebrations on the same day as Krishna Jayanti celebrations by BJP in Kerala, now the left party is to reportedly support Navarathri celebrations.

“We will not be organizing any Navratri festival, but will definitely support such celebrations organized by devotees. At the same time, we would strongly oppose organizing of such festivals by religious fanatics,” said CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan at a press conference here on Saturday, according to TOI

Jayarajan has claimed that when the CPI(M) organized Onam celebrations on Sreekrishna Jayanti day, it was widely accepted and there was considerable reduction in the number of participants in the programme organized by Sang Parivar.

He reportedly said the party would organize meets to promote secularism in all panchayats and municipal wards in the state between September 26 and October 2.

He also alleged that RSS exploits the religious faith of people for political gains and that the CPI(M) would oppose this.
