 1. The special Lokayukta court on Tuesday remanded Lokayukta Y Bhaskar Rao's son, Y Ashwin to 10 day police custody until August 6. Ashwin was arrested from Hyderabad on Monday by the Special Investigation Team led by DCP Labhu Ram. Ashwin has been accused of running an extortion racket in collusion with a few Lokayukta officials. 2. Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao seems to be in no mood to give up the post despite his son being arrested by the SIT on charges of running an extortion racket. Justice Rao went on a 20-day leave beginning Monday and sent his letter to registrar-in-charge. It was the same day Ashwin was arrested by the SIT team in Hyderabad. The Lokayukta had said that he would resign if his son was proven guilty. 3. The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to consider giving the 148-year-old Bangalore Club a special license. Hearing a petition filed by the Club last week challenging the cancellation of its ownership license, the Judge observed that a temporary license could be considered for the Club and the government should fast track the application to grant the special license. 4. The state government's bid to defer BBMP polls hit another hurdle as Governor Vajubhai Vala referred the BBMP Restructuring Bill to President Pranab Mukherjee for his assent. The Bill was passed for the second time in the Assembly and was cleared in the Upper House when Opposition members staged a walk-out. The government must conduct the BBMP polls as scheduled on August 22. 5. According to a report in Deccan Herald, the Governor has struck down the name of Justice K L Manjunath for the post of Upalokayukta, citing that there were complaints against him. The state government had recommended his name last week after the post fell vacant since Justice SB Majage retired from office on July 17.
