Sporadic violence in Ullal area; 3 stabbing cases reported

Written by : PTI

Three cases of stabbing had been reported from the communally sensitive Ullal region near here in the last two days, police said.

A 19-year old youth, identified as Shiva from Kumpala, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the latest attack against Ibrahim Nafsan on April 25. Three others were also attacked on the same night.

City Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar said 10 suspects had been summoned for questioning and more arrests would be made soon. At least four or five persons were involved in the attacks, he said.

A special investigation team had been formed to probe the attacks, he said, adding that 600 policemen, including officers and 10 platoons of state reserved police had been deployed in Ullal.

To a question whether these attacks were in retaliation against fisherman Rajesh Kotian's murder, he said it was too early to come to a conclusion before the investigation was complete.
