In a tragic incident, four 15-year-old girls died after they were washed away at Murdeshwar Beach during a school trip.
Tragedy struck when the students entered the waters on Tuesday, December 10. Fifty-seven people including 46 students and 6 teachers from Morarji Desai Residential School in Mulbagal in Kolar district had travelled to Murdeshwar by bus as part of a school trip.
While the body of Shravanthi (15), was recovered on Tuesday, rescue workers found the body of three others on December 11. Urban Development and Kolar district-in charge minister Byrathi Suresh has directed the district administration to make arrangements to send her body back to her hometown.
The bodies of three girls Deeksha, Lavanya and Vandana were recovered on Wednesday. Three students - Yashoda, Veekshana and Lipika – who were rescued, have been admitted to the hospital.
According to reports, the students were warned not to enter the sea but they did not pay heed to it. The search operation was carried out by the Uttara Kannada police along with the Coastal Security Police, local swimmers, and fishermen.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the deceased girl’s family. Minister Byrathi Suresh too announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh.
