Out on bail, Telangana man accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, rapes her again

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly brutally raped multiple times by a man she referred to as ‘daddy’ in Telangana’s Hayathnagar. What’s disturbing is that the same man had been arrested more than six months before for allegedly raping the same girl. He was out on bail when the horrific crime occurred again.

According to the Hayathnagar police, 36-year-old Medishetty Santosh Reddy, a construction worker, was living with the girl’s mother since 2011.

“The girl does not have a father and she used to call Santosh Reddy ‘daddy’. He was the father figure in the household. On June 18, which was a Sunday, he told the girl that they would go buy meat and have a nice meal. On the way, he lured her to go with him to a supposed fair and got into a bus to Sindhanur in Karnataka,” said Hayathnagar Inspector, Narender Goud.

When they reached Sindhanur, Santosh Reddy took the girl to the government Primary school and allegedly raped her multiple times.

"Santhosh Reddy had worked as a construction labourer in many parts of Karnataka and had also worked at Sindhanur in Raichur district. He knew that the school would be closed and that he could take the girl there without getting caught," Goud said.

On June 21, Santosh Reddy dropped off the girl at the Hayathnagar bus stop and told her to wait for him and had promised to return in a while.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother, who was worried that her daughter was missing, had filed a missing persons complaint with the Hayathnagar police on the night of June 18.

The police found the girl at the bus stop and on June 22, they arrested Santhosh Reddy within a few meters from Hayathnagar bus stop.

What’s more shocking is that Santhosh Reddy had been arrested on December 2, 2016 for allegedly luring the same girl into a wooded area and raping her. He was booked for rape and relevant sections of POCSO at the Bollaram Police Station.

“In March this year, Santhosh Reddy got out on bail. He went back to the woman he was in a relationship with and apologised for his behaviour, after which she allowed him to continue living with her and her daughter. He had convinced his lover that the girl needed a father figure and that it had to be him as the girl already considered him as her father,” Inspector Goud added.

The police have booked him for rape and sections 3, 4 and 5 of POCSO.
