One-day-old baby's body run over by motorists found in Ramanagara

A horrifying incident has come to light in Karnataka’s Ramanagara, where the mutilated body of a day-old newborn was found on the road.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a few passers-by stopped on the side of the road in Arekatte Doddi in Sathanur village of Ramanagara as they had spotted something “strange” along with blood coming out of a gunny bag.

Up on close inspection, they realised that it was the body of a dead baby and immediately informed the police.

According to the Ramanagara Police, the baby was warpped in a cloth and put inside a gunny bag.

“It appears that the bag was thrown near a bush on the roadside and a few stray dogs must have dragged the bag on to the road. It also appears that several motorists have run over the gunny bag thinking it may have been an animal resulting in complete mutilation of the baby’s body,” Ramanagara police said.

Currently, no one has come forward to identify the baby. “There are barely any remains of the baby. The only identifiable parts are its fingernails and the child was only one day old,” the police added.

Police said that according to the passers-by, who reported the incident, a few motorists had stopped to see what was in the bag and had assumed that it was a dead dog.

“There are absolutely no clues that we can get from the body as there are barely any parts left. This has made identifying the baby and its parents difficult. However, we are inquiring at the hospitals and nursing homes in the vicinity to get clues,” the police said.
