The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Saturday recorded the statement of Vidvat L two weeks after he was brutally assaulted allegedly by Mohammed Nalapad Haris, son of Congress MLA NA Haris in Bengaluru.

 

Vidvat reportedly told the police that he felt that he was about to die when he was assaulted by the gang. “I had injured my right leg on the night because of which I was sitting with the leg stretched. Nalapad took objection to this... and later attacked me and my friends,” he told police as per Times of India

 

He also said that he repeatedly apologised and requested the attackers to stop. “I repeatedly apologised and requested the attackers to stop. The more I said sorry, the more punches I received. They even hit me with ice buckets and other objects picked up from tables,” he told police. 

 

24-year-old Vidvat, son of a prominent businessman, is currently recuperating in the hospital after the brutal assault on February 17. 

 

A CCB team recorded Vidvat’s statement in the presence of doctors after returning without a statement on two earlier occasions as doctors said he was in no condition to speak to them.

 

The team led by inspector Ashwath Gowda spoke to Vidvat for over two hours.

 

“His statement was no different from the complaint, which was filed by his friend, Praveen, on February 18. Vidvat too said that Mohammed Nalapad and his friends beat him up mercilessly,” a senior CCB official said, speaking to The Hindu

 

Nalapad Haris and six of his associates involved in the incident are currently in jail and were denied bail on Friday. The bail was denied by Magistrate Parameshwar of the 63rd Sessions Court in Bengaluru on grounds that the police had not yet recorded the statement of Vidvat, Nalapad's victim.

They will be produced in court on March 7.

 

The case has been under massive media and public scrutiny with the Karnataka Assembly elections around the corner.
