A year ago, the victim was an elderly uncle of the perpetrator.Last week, Salman and his wife Shabrin were arrested by Ashoknagar police for allegedly kidnapping and murdering their niece Rathiba. They had picked her up from her school and then demanded ransom from her parents. Fearing that the child would recognise them, the couple later allegedly killed her. Salman even went with his brother-in-law, to help him search for his missing daughter. Later, police learned that it was Salman who was involved in the kidnap. In a strange turn of events, Rathiba’s alleged killers had killed another relative of theirs. Interrogation revealed that Salman had been involved in the death of his grand-uncle. The man turned out to be Hafeez Shamsul Huda, Editor of Urdu weekly Makhzan, who was murdered a year ago. The case had baffled the police. Now it looks like the police will charge Salman with two murders.
