A 25-year-old man working with a call centre sustained severe injuries after falling off a giant wheel at the International Robotic Birds Exhibition in Marathahalli on September 1, as per a report in The Hindu. The man has been identified as Mohammad Farhan Ansari, who lives in Hongasandra and he has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of St. John’s Hospital.

A complaint was filed by Farhan’s brother Mohammad Imran Ansari. Based on the complaint, the owner of the giant wheel and its operator, including the exhibition owner and manager, have been booked under Sections 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.

“We have registered a case and have picked up four men whom we found culpable of negligence. We are investigating how the victim fell off the giant wheel,” a senior police officer told The Hindu. 

Farhan’s family has accused the operator of negligence and alleged that the giant wheel did not have any safety measures. 

Meanwhile, the giant wheel operator blamed the man and claimed that he was taking a selfie while the wheel was in motion, and ignored warnings. 

In May, a 10-year-old girl had died at a fun fair in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, where one of the cars of a giant wheel crashed into the ground during the ride. Six others who were in the car were severely injured. 

The accident reportedly occurred due to a bolt coming loose and the car was carrying seven people including three children, at the time of the incident. 

While 10-year-old Amrutha died almost immediately, others were admitted to Anantapur general hospital for treatment.
