The News Minute | December 26, 2014 | 09:53 am IST The Karnataka government has decided to set up a study centre at the Oxford University in honour of Prof M N Srinivas, well-known anthropologist from the state, states a report by The New Indian Express. The Vice-Chancellor of the British University wrote to the government regarding setting up a study centre in Prof M N Srinivas' name, following which the Higher Education Department took the decision. An expert panel has been set by the government in this regard. Prof M N Srinivas had done his PhD from Oxford University. 'He developed the concept of Sanskritisation, and observed that castes aspire to rise in the social hierarchy by adopting the rituals and practices of dominant castes', states the report. ( Prof. M N Srinivas )However, not all academicians seem to be excited about the government's decision, as several other study centres in the state are performing poorly because of inadequate funds. Tweet
