Hyderabad cop and family members killed in road accident in Karnataka

Four members of a family from Hyderabad and the person driving their car were killed in a road accident in Karnataka’s Bidar district on Monday, August 15. The deceased include G Giridhar (45), a head constable of the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police station, his wife Anita (36), their son Mayank (2), and their niece Priyanka (15). The person driving the car, Jagadish (35), was also killed in the accident. All the victims were residents of Begumpet in Hyderabad, according to The Hindu. The vehicle, in which ten people were traveling, reportedly rammed into a container truck from behind, near Bhangoor check-post in Bidar district, on the Hyderabad–Mumbai National Highway. 

The passengers were reportedly returning to Hyderabad after visiting the Dattatreya Temple at Deval Ganagapur, in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district. While four of the victims died on the spot, the two-year-old, Mayank, succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Mannaekhelli, The Hindu reported. The five other surviving passengers Rajita, Sarita, Shalini, and Sarala, who were also relatives of Giridhar, were injured in the accident. They were reportedly moved to the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. Later, they were shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad, according to the Times of India. 

A case has been registered by the Mannaekhelli police under Sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), ToI reported. 

Earlier on August 10, four members of a family including two children were killed in a road accident in Telangana's Nizamabad district. The accident occurred near Kothapalli at Mupkal Bypass on the Hyderabad-Nagpur highway, when their car overturned after one of its tyres burst.
