The News Minute | July 21, 2014 | 11.52 am ISTMembers of the Golla community in Chittayyana Hatti have reportedly stopped the practice of forcing women to remain outside their houses during menstruation or after delivering a baby.According to a report in Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka, the elders of the village in Hosadurga taluk in Chitradurga district have stopped this practice. The report quotes villagers saying that the community as a whole prayed to their deity Junjappa, asking for a sign to end this practice, and the deity had obliged. Historically Golla community have been cattle-rearers and are spread across Bangalore Rural, Chitradurga, Tumkur, and Davangere districts in the state. The women of the community would have to remain outside the house when they were menstruating for around three days, and for nearly three months after they had delivered a child.
