Frothing increases in Bellandur lake after rain lashes Bengaluru

Written by : TNM

The level of foam on the Bellandur lake has increased due to heavy rain that took place in the city on Saturday, according to a report in The Hindu. The newspaper also reported that the residents of the neighbourhood repeatedly complained that their appeals were not taken seriously either by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) or Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).One of the residents told the newspaper that the water from the lake that has blackened due to chemicals and sewage, flowed out on to the roads in Kariammana Agrahara, that connects the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The rain has worsened the problem with the encroachment of raja kaluves. Other residents alleged that they had seen several pourakarmikas dumping garbage into the lake.BBMP officials told the newspaper that they had prepared a detailed project report for the lake’s development around five years ago, but the lake was transferred to the Bangalore Development Authority and no action was initiated by them or the BWSSB.
