The News Minute | April 4, 2015 | 11.15 am ISTIn a few years’ time writer R K Laxman’s house in Mysuru, where he wrote much of his work, would be open to the public.According to a report in The Hindu, plans to restore the the writer’s house in Yadavgiri in Mysuru district are underway and if all goes well, it would be developed along the lines of Shakespeare’s house in Statford-Upon-Avon in England.Although one of Laxman lived mostly in Mysuru and in Chennai since the 1990s and up to his death in 2001, one of his most famous works Malgudi Days was inspired by Bengaluru. The word Malgudi is a port-manteau, made up of the names of two old parts of the city – Malleswaram and Basavangudi. The Mysuru City Corporation had intervened when Laxman’s family were about to demolish the house four years ago, and later acquired it. Once the restoration and landscaping work is completed, corporation officials say that family members have agreed to gift some of the late writer’s things to showcase as memorabilia.
