A 96-year-old man died on Saturday, while waiting in a queue at a bank in Ajekar, Udupi district, due to a spike in blood pressure, TheTimes of India reported.

The victim, Gopal Shetty, had gone to get his Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes exchanged. 

Shetty was standing in the line even before the bank was open for the day. While waiting in line Shetty collapsed. 

Bank officials took him to the Primary Health Centre and he was later shifted to a hospital in Karkala, where he was declared brought dead.

Shetty is survived by three sons and a daughter. “My father was a senior citizen, and the officials at the bank never made him wait at the counters. They used to hand over the cash to him immediately after the formalities were completed,” his son, Sudhakar Shetty, told TOI.

Two days ago, a woman in Telangana had committed suicide fearing that the money she had received on the sale of agricultural land, which belonged to the family, would be seized by the government.

Similarly, a 48-year old man, who was at a bank to deposit Rs 5 lakh worth scrapped notes at a bank in Thalassery, Kerala, died after he fell down from the second floor of the building.

Recently, Vishwanath Vartak, 78-year-old man, who was standing in the queue before an SBI branch for exchanging currency, collapsed and died on the spot at Navghar in Mulund, Mumbai.
