Written by : TNM Staff

Following the Supreme Court order on Tuesday asking Karnataka to release 6000 cusecs of water for three days to Tamil Nadu, the Bengaluru police have put measures into place to ensure there was no repeat of the violence events on September 12.

The Bengaluru city police on Tuesday extended prohibitory orders under section 144 till September 30. Prohibitory orders were being enforced in city ever since September 12.

With the next hearing of the case scheduled on Friday, the Bengaluru city police have decided to extend prohibitory orders till Friday.

Prohibitory orders will however not hinder public life in the city. Enforcing the order merely means that unlawful assemblies can be clamped down upon easily by the police.

According to Deccan Herald, the police will decide whether to deploy additional forces based on the situation on Friday.

“The forces will be in the city till September 30. We will review the situation and take a decision on September 30whether to use forces for some more time,” Additional Commissioner of Police (West) K S R Charan Reddy told DH.

In the wake of violence that broke out on September 12, the city police had summoned central paramilitary forces, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Karnataka State Reserve Police and City Armed Reserve.

Bengaluru City Police’s twitter handle tweeted on Tuesday:

The chief minister has convened an all-party meeting on Wednesday followed by a cabinet meeting to discuss and decide on the apex court order,  an official told IANS.
