The Bengaluru police on Thursday arrested two men accused of murdering a woman and then raping her corpse earlier this month.

The incident took place between 3-5 pm on August 15 in the Subramanyapura police station limits in the city, according to the police.

The accused, who are in their early 20s and hail from Uttar Pradesh, have been identified as Azad alias Rajiv, and Shyam. They have been booked for murder and rape, Inspector Parashuram of Subramanyapura police station, said.

The duo allegedly murdered the victim, a 26-year-old woman, and then had intercourse with her body after her death.

Rajiv used to work for the victim's husband, who is a panipuri vendor in the city. Rajiv however had left the job last year.

The husband owed Rajiv Rs 7,500 and on the day of the incident, the latter along with his friend Shyam came to the victims's house with the intention of stealing from the couple.

The woman's husband was out for work at the time and their two children, both of who are mentally unstable, were in another room.

After stealing, the men murdered and raped her.

The victim is survived by her husband and children.
