Written by : TNM Staff

The whole of Bengaluru was shocked after a chilling video of a girl being molested surfaced in the media.

Within two days of a suo motu case being registered, the city police arrested four persons in connection with the case, while two others were still at large.

The fifth suspect, James, a 21-year-old resident of Chikkabanasawadi, who is a delivery boy with an online portal, was arrested on Friday, a TOI report said.

James was picked up from Channasandra, near Ramamurthy Nagar after the police were tipped off by a local that he was in a hideout in the area, the report adds.

James, Somashekar alias Chinni, 24, Sudhi alias Sudhesh, 20, and another absconding accomplice, identified as Pappi, were waiting at the end of the road on two two-wheelers. Aiyappa and Leno alias Lenin Patrick, accosted the woman, who was returning from a New Year celebration.

Aiyappa grabbed the woman and tried to kiss her, when the woman's sister, who was a few paces ahead and had entered their house, rushed out and raised an alarm, prompting Ayyappa to let go of the survivor. Ayyappa and Leno sped away from the spot, the report adds.

Meanwhile, the four youths arrested on Thursday were later produced before a magistrate and were remanded to five-day police custody.

Media reports suggested that the survivor had identified two of the accused,

however, ACP (East), Hemanth Nimbalkar, denied it, the TOI report says.

The Commissioner of Police, on Thursday, had said that the police were in touch with the survivor and that she was cooperating with the investigation.

The city police are going through evidence in the Kammanahalli molestation case to ascertain whether the charges can be scaled up against the accused.

The accused have been booked under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 A and B (sexual harassment) and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention).
