Written by : TNM

The News Minute | October 13, 2014 | 08:55 am IST Belgaum has become the most accident prone district in Karnataka, leaving behind Bangalore, states a report by The New Indian Express. Belgaum has around 7.35 lakh vehicles and Bangalore has around 50.5 lakh vehicles. However, up to June this year Belgaum had recorded 365 fatal accidents in which 406 people lost their lives. But Bangalore in the same period recorded 333 fatal accidents in which 342 people were killed. Belgaum and Bangalore also recorded 2,362 and 2,077 people, respectively, who were injured in road accidents. Lack of discipline while driving like speeding and not wearing seat belts, and absence of service roads in highways are some of the reasons reported for the high number of accidents. “Most accidents involve maxi cabs, goods vehicles carrying people, and vehicles overloaded with passengers,” B Dayanand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bangalore told The New Indian Express.
