Battleground Twitter: Siddaramaiah, Yeddyurappa slug it out after PM’s rally in B’luru

With the Karnataka polls four months away, it looks like Twitter has become the centre stage for the battle, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bengaluru visit on Sunday.

Since Sunday, the Congress party and the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have been on the offensive. The party countered the BJP on every unfavourable comment made against the party/state government and also accused the PM of lying.

Not to be left behind, the BJP’s chief ministerial aspirant BS Yeddyurappa hit back at the CM of Karnataka.

In his tweet, Yeddyurappa questioned, “Why did you quash all the powers of #Lokayukta and make it a toothless body?”

He also went onto question Siddaramaiah for not taking any action against minister KJ George after he was named as an accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the mysterious death of Deputy Superintendent Ganapathy.

In his final tweet in the series, the former CM invoked the controversial luxury watch that Siddaramaiah had received from his friend as a gift.

Since Modi’s rally on Sunday, the local leadership has been very vocal about the PM choosing not to speak over the contentious Mahadayi water-sharing dispute.

CM Siddaramaiah jumped into the fray too, countering allegations made by the PM on Sunday and also attacking him for his alleged role in the Gujarat riots, during his chief ministership.

On Tuesday, he also attacked the PM for not appointing a Lokayukta in Gujarat during his tenure.

In his latest tweet on PM Modi, Siddaramaiah asked him to appoint a Lokpal to investigate the controversial death of Judge Loya and also appoint an “untainted person” as the BJP’s CM candidate.

Addressing thousands of BJP supporters in Palace Grounds, PM Modi had accused the Siddaramaiah-led government of being corrupt and said that it has not been able to efficiently utilise the funds the Centre had released to it in the last four years.

The following day, CM Siddaramaiah had countered these allegations in his speech at the State Assembly.
