Even as many people got together on Saturday to demand a well-connected suburban railway network in Bengaluru, Union Minister Ananth Kumar stated that development works would be taken up in the next two months. 

“I have already held meetings with senior railway officials. They have assured of making arrangements to commence works for suburban rail in next two months..In the later stages electric suburban trains will be operated on double track to Bidadi, Yeshwanthpura, Kengeri, Ramnagar and Bangarpet. Like Delhi and Mumbai local trains must be available for every two minutes,” he was quoted as saying.

The 'Chuku Buku Beku' campaign, which translates to ‘we want trains’, was launched by Citizens of Bengaluru (CfB) a few weeks ago.

The campaign projects suburban trains as the alternative to the proposed steel flyover in the city, which has seen sharp criticism and wide-spread opposition.

On Saturday, the volunteers traveled from Cantonment station to Whitefield in KSR-Bangarpet MEMU- a distance of 20kms- to raise awareness about the campaign and send across the message to the government. 

The participants included 300 students from Mount Carmel college and citizens-groups including Whitefield Rising and KR Puram Rising, who boarded the train tour from different stations.
