12-year-old boy drowns in open construction pit in Bangalore

The News Minute | October 9, 2014 | 09:06 am IST In another shocking incident, a 12-year-old boy drowned in a construction pit on the campus of the Government Arts and Science Colleges in Bangalore on Wednesday, reports The New Indian Express.Yashwanth, a Std 6 student, had gone to play cricket with his friend Trilok on the college grounds. While playing, Yashwanth ran to retrieve a ball that had fallen into an open pit dug near the playground for construction purpose. He fell into the pit which was filled with water due to the heavy rains that the city has been experiencing this week. Though Trilok and a few others heard his cry for help and pulled him out, Yashwanth died on the way to the hospital. A case has been registered at Halasuru Gate Police station and police have said they will book a case against those guilty for the negligence, adds the report. This incident took place soon after the decomposed body of a 9-year-old Geeta Lakshmi was found on Wednesday in the Madiwala lake, two days after the girl was washed away in an open drain in the city.
