Want to promote more filmmakers, says Dhanush

Written by : TNM

Actor-filmmaker Dhanush has worked with three women filmmakers so far in his career and he says he is keen on promoting more women. Having worked in the direction of his wife Aishwarya in 3 and with his sister-in-law Soundarya in VIP, he has also produced filmmaker Ashwini Iyer Tiwari’s film Amma Kannaku, a Tamil remake of her own film Nil Battey Sannata.

Talking about the need to have more women filmmakers, Dhanush told Deccan Chronicle on the sidelines of the audio launch of VIP 2, “I want to promote more women filmmakers with my future offerings. We have not even used the word feminism anywhere in VIP 2 and in fact, it celebrates womanhood.”

On being asked who is a better director between his wife and sister-in-law, he said, “Rather than differentiate, you could ask how similar they are. They are both highly talented and ambitious in their own ways to earn a name. Their sincerity and dedication towards the profession is apparent. Both are strong filmmakers and think in different genres. They have a great command over their craft which they have inherited from their father.”

While VIP didn’t have a release in Hindi, its sequel is being dubbed as VIP 2: Lalkar. Prod him about his decision to have a Hindi release for the sequel, Dhanush said, “After Dangal and Baahubali, which have made it big in the global market, the market is conducive for quality flicks. So, we didn’t want to restrict VIP 2 to Tamil and Telugu only — and hence, planned a Hindi version as well. When given a good product, people are very receptive.”
