The official release date of Ajith’s upcoming film with producer Boney Kapoor, Nerkonda Paarvai, has now been confirmed to be August 10. The film, a remake of the hit Hindi movie Pink starring Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead, will hit screens just before Independence Day.

Directed by H Vinoth of Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru fame, the film’s cast includes Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam and Andrea Tariang in lead roles.

This project is the result of producer Boney Kapoor’s long time wish of wanting to work with Ajith in Tamil. This will be the producer’s return to the industry after 25 years. The film will also star Rangaraj Pandey, Adhik Ravichandran, Arjun Chidambaram, Aswin Rao and Sujith Shankar, among others.

On his decision to produce the Tamil film, Kapoor had said in a statement: “Tamil industry has always been special for me. In fact, it’s been a long journey involving Ajith to collaborate for a film, which he took up as a sheer commitment from the time he shared screen space with my wife in English Vinglish. Accordingly, we both earnestly searched for suitable content that will add a special mileage to our respective works. We are now delighted to have joined hands for Pink.”

The film’s first look poster was released earlier this month. This project marks the Tamil debut of Vidya Balan, who is paired with Ajith in the film. While Yuvan Shankar Raja has been signed to compose the music, Nirav Shah will crank the camera.

It was recently announced that Boney Kapoor has also purchased the remake rights of the Hindi film Badhaai Ho to be made in south Indian languages. Starring Neena Gupta, Ayushmann Khurrana, Gajraj Rao and Sanya Malhotra, it was directed by Amit Sharma.

Ajith was last seen in Viswasam, which proved to be a major blockbuster in his career, grossing Rs 130 crore in total.
