Director Payal Kapadia has revealed that she has started work on her next film after the success of All We Imagine As Light, which won several awards globally. In an interview with The Film Stage, she said that another romantic movie about Bombay is on the cards. She also expressed her desire to make three films, like a trilogy on the city.

When asked whether she has all the films written, Payal said they are in a treatment stage now and that it would take a minimum of three years for her next film to materialise. Talking about her first documentary film A Night of Knowing Nothing, she said that it was a film made with a very clear political position.

“My previous film was very angry. It had a clear political position that I was taking. In this film [All We Imagine As Light], I wanted to be a bit more calm internally, just because I have been so angry for so long. It felt like I needed to calm a little bit, to explore a new way of thinking about the same issues,” she told The Film Stage

All We Imagine as Light, which tells the story of two Malayali nurses living in Mumbai, won the Grand Prix– the second biggest award after the Palme d’Or– at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
