Marathi actress Anjali Patil thrilled to team up with Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth’s next with director Pa. Ranjith has been officially titled Kaala, and it will start rolling from May 28 in Mumbai. Even while rumours are spreading like wildfire that Bollywood’s Huma Qureshi has been roped in as the leading lady, Marathi actress Anjali Patil has landed a key role in the film. She is popular for her work in independent films such as Delhi in a Day and the National award-winning Telugu drama, Naa Bangaru Thalli. Anjali is thrilled to be making her southern debut with the project.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, she said, “When I came to Chennai to meet director Ranjith and his team, I felt that this is an ideal group to work with. Even though I took some time to decide, I eventually made up my mind on this project elevating me in the film industry.”

The film is being produced by Dhanush, and interestingly Anjali has already worked with him. “We worked together in the Hindi film Nimmo, which is produced by director Anand L Rai. It is a happy coincidence to act in his production. When we were shooting for Nimmo, I told Dhanush about being in talks for Pa Ranjith’s project — he was surprised, and we were having a good laugh about it! I admire him as an actor and I am extremely happy to be part of the Wunderbar family.”

The project is also rumoured to star actor-filmmaker Samuthirakani in a pivotal role apart from Sakshi Aggarwal and others. The film also marks the first-time collaboration of National award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad and Rajinikanth.
