When Italian photographer Valentine Bellini first visited the agbobloshie, the world’s largest electronic waste dumpsite in Ghana in 2012, he had an idea.Millions of tonnes of old electronic goods is reportedly exported to developing countries each year. The global volume of e-waste generated is expected to reach 93.5 million tons in 2016.In India, the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) is fast turning into a large e-waste dumping yard with it reportedly getting 86 percent of waste generated in the developed world. Over 250,000 workers are employed in the various organized and unorganized recycling units in the state.Bellini travelled across the globe visiting China, India and Pakistan to photograph some of the world’s largest e-waste dumps. The project titled ‘Bit Rot’ follows the international movements of the e-waste and tries to underline the need for more environmental friendly alternatives. “I started more or less by chance in Ghana. I was travelling and I met a person who was running an NGO which worked with the people living in the dump.
