How much is too much? Man tears thumb tendon after playing too much Candy Crush

Written by : TNM

In a one of a kind situation, a man living in California, USA tore his thumb tendon after playing too much of the popular smartphone based game, Candy Crush Saga. The 29 year old was in between jobs and hence played the game continuously for over a month. The reason this case is different is because such injuries are usually extremely painful, but according to the doctors who treated him, the man claimed not to have noticed any pain while he played. This case may prove that in a sense, video games are capable of numbing people’s pain which could contribute to addiction."We need to be aware that certain video games can act like digital painkillers," Dr Andrew Doan, a co-author of the case report and head of addictions research at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, was quoted as saying. "We have to be very cognizant that can be abused,"according to the report. To doctors he had said that he had been playing the addictive game all day for six to eight weeks.  Using MRI reports, doctors determined that he would need surgery to repair the damaged tendon. Where people usually ruptured tendons where it was the thinnest, for him , it had occurred at the thickest point on the tendon.
