Google is rumoured to be readying itself to launch three smartwatches later in the year in the Pixel brand name and what is more, these wearables are likely to be run on the modified Wear OS and next generation Qualcomm processors specially developed and made to work with the Wear OS.

These details are in the form of leaked information/speculation as of now but from sources usually found to be reliable and correct.

According to them, the connection between the two is being made on the basis of a clear announcement from Qualcomm that it is working on its Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC and the chipsets may be ready to be shipped out by fall. And going by the normal timetable that Google follows every year in releasing its hardware, it is predicted that the launch of the new flagship smartphone, Pixel 3, in the last quarter will be accompanied by the release of these smartwatches as well. They have even indicated that the internal codenames of the three Pixel smartwatches are ‘Ling’, ‘Triton’ and ‘Sardine’.

Qualcomm’s new chipset, the Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC will be a quad-core processor and based on ARM Cortex-A7 architecture, built through the 28-nm manufacturing process. The Adreno 304 GPU will be the graphics processing unit and an all new power management unit PMW3100 will also be fitted on the new Pixel branded wearables. They have the Blackghost IC which enables the device to be kept on all the time, but still consume limited power. The IC will take over the functions when the device is idle and the CPU will be woken up only when in use.

One will have to wait for the official confirmation from Google to know more about the detailed specs of these Pixel smartwatches and their prices and so on.
