After facing a devastating loss to the YSRCP in the Andhra assembly elections, Chandrababu Naidu spoke to the media briefly on Thursday.

Wearing a sombre expression, Naidu told the media, “Elections have concluded, and counting has happened. In a democracy, the people's verdict must be respected. I express my heartfelt congratulations to YS Jagan and YCP on his victory.”

He also congratulated Narendra Modi and the BJP, as well as Odisha’s Naveen Patnaik, for their respective electoral wins.

In spite of the TDP’s loss, Naidu expressed his gratitude to the party workers. “I thank all the party workers who have worked day and night for their candidates' success. I also thank the people who came out and voted for the party, and the party's well wishers,” he said.

Speaking about the future course of the party, Naidu said that he will be holding a review meeting before commenting further. “Once we review the election results, we will let the media and public know our reaction. We will review how the party must work in the future, and move forward. I do not wish to say anything more,” said Naidu.

Naidu, who had been the CM of Andhra since its bifurcation in 2014, sent his resignation to the Governor on Thursday evening.
