Transgender people to build temple for Andhra CM Naidu for establishing welfare board

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu may soon have a temple dedicated to him, as the transgender community is mulling building one for him for setting up of the Hijra Welfare Board.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, P Vijayakumar, founder of the Samatha Hijra Hakkula Aikya Porata Vedika, said that the temple would host a silver statue weighing five kg.

The statue is reportedly going to be installed in Transgenders Colony in Kurnool district's Nandyal town.

Stating that no government had paid attention to the welfare of transgender persons since Independence, Vijayakumar said that he was willing to sell land that he owned, to ensure that the temple was built.

It is reportedly going to be built at a cost of Rs 10 lakh.

This is not the first time that someone has declared that they would built a temple for Naidu.

In October 2015, a village in the capital city region of Andhra Pradesh had decided to build a temple for the Chief Minister on the banks of the Krishna river.

At the time, locals of Harischandrapuram said that they planned to build an idol of Naidu, anywhere between 15-20 feet tall, to express their gratitude for including their village in the capital region.

"This is our way of thanking our CM who has been relentlessly working for the new capital. As there is no other auspicious occasion than the stone-laying ceremony on October 22 for the capital, we are going ahead to lay the stone for the temple on the same day and at the same time," the village sarpanch had said at the time.

In 2014, Naidu’s Telangana counterpart, K Chandrasekhar Rao also had a temple built for him.

The small structure had a digital print of KCR, with a halo and blowing the conch like Lord Krishna, close to Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
