Written by : TNM Staff

Vijayawada's Gudivada Club was a scene of chaos on Thursday afternoon, as TDP leader Raavi Venkateswara Rao whipped out a revolver and went on to fire two shots in the air.

Rao was reported to be heavily inebriated and fired the weapon at around 2.30pm, following which the crowd rushed to the exit.

According to reports, Rao had an argument with the club organisers and fired two rounds in the air. No one was injured in the incident.

The police soon arrived at the spot, and took eyewitness statements.

"We are yet to come to a conclusion on the episode. Only after completion of investigation tomorrow can we find out what exactly happened,” One-town sub-inspector told The Hindu.

Quoting sources, the Times of India reported that Rao's aides whisked him away swiftly, while adding that the licence of the revolver had expired a year ago and was not renewed.

"Rao fired from his revolver in full public glare as if he is some film hero," an eyewitness told ToI.

Rao had filed his nomination for Gudivada in the 2014 legislative election but lost to Kodali Venkateswara Rao alias Nani, who switched to the YSRCP.
