Professor from Andhra University arrested, suspected link with Maoists

The News Minute | November 6, 2014 | 11:15 am IST An associate professor from Andhra University was arrested by the police on Thursday for “suspected links with Maoists.”J Appa Rao, was arrested as the police said that he was suspected of supplying explosives to the extremist groups.His arrest was announced a few hours after his family had lodged a complaint that unidentified people had allegedly kidnapped him from the university staff quarters at 2 AMAppa Rao is said to be a rights activist who used to actively participate in various movements for the protection of rights of tribals.It is expected that the police will present him in front of the media and disclose more details about the case by Thursday evening.
