Five kids die in separate incidents in Andhra

Four children met with a watery grave at Guntur district while a toddler died after falling into a borewell at SPS Nellore district, in two separate incidents in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

A two-year-old girl, Mounika, accidentally fell into an uncovered borewell near her house at P P Palem in SPS Nellore district, even as her bewildered parents looked on helplessly.

As they raised an alarm, neighbours gathered at the spot and launched rescue efforts but as the borewell was about 25 feet deep, their efforts proved futile.

The village Sarpanch, on hearing about the incident, engaged an excavator to create a wide crater.

When they finally extricated the girl from the borewell after a two-hour exercise, she was found dead.

In the Guntur district incident, four children drowned in a village pond at Obulanayudupalem this afternoon.

The four boys, students of class IX, went to the pond for a swim with four other students after playing cricket, but got caught in a swirl and died as they did not know swimming.
