AP police to get complete makeover, 2,422 new vehicles to be procured

The News Minute | November 27, 2014 | 8:10 am ISTThe Andhra Pradesh government at the cost of Rs 100 crore gave its approval to procure 2,422 new vehicles for its police personnel, on Wednesday.This move comes weeks after the Telangana government equipped their police personnel with state of the art vehicles with various facilities.According to a Government Order (GO) issued by principal secretary, B Prasada Rao, the amount will be used for procuring vehicles of all categories including 1,314 light motor vehicles, 42 medium motor vehicles, 21 heavy motor vehicles, 1,000 motor cycles and six interceptor vehicles.According to a report in the Times of India, it was only a few days ago that the AP finance department had imposed a ban on the purchase of new vehicles by any department, stating limited resources as the reason.The proposal for purchase of vehicles was put forth by DGP JV Ramudu on November 11. The principal secretary also asked the DGP to ensure value for the money in the procurement process.
