An Andhra Pradesh man who confessed on video that he had killed a 59-year-old man, alleging that he had sexually assaulted his minor daughter, was arrested by the police on Friday, December 13. The man, who had been working in Kuwait, came to Annamayya district and killed his wife’s sister’s father-in-law on December 7.

After returning to Kuwait, he released a video alleging that the murdered relative had sexually assaulted his 12-year-old daughter who was living in his house in Obulavaripalli village of Annamayya district. The father alleged that the Obulavaripalli police did not take action after his wife brought the sexual assault to their notice. He also said that he was willing to surrender to the police.

The murder accused and his wife had been living in Kuwait for about five years. Their daughter had been living with her mother’s sister. According to The Times of India, the couple was deported by their employer who had found out about the murder. They were arrested near Obulavaripalli, along with the father’s cousin who is accused of being their accomplice, on the evening of December 13.

In the confession video, the father alleged that after their daughter informed his wife about the alleged sexual assault, his wife complained to the police. However, the police only ‘counselled’ the family members and sent them away, without taking action, he alleged.

The police, however, deny his allegations. Rajampeta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) N Sudhakar told the media that on the morning of November 21, the girl’s mother went to the Obulavaripalli police and said that she was having differences with her sister. “She said she wanted to either take her daughter back to Kuwait or send her to a hostel in Tirupati. She asked the police to make sure her sister’s family members don’t visit her. She never mentioned sexual assault,” the DySP said.

He said that the police had summoned the relatives and spoke to them, and insisted that they were unaware of any sexual assault allegation. Later on December 7, the 59-year-old man was killed with fatal head injuries while sleeping outside his house, police said.

“In light of the recent dispute, and on finding evidence that [the girl’s father] had travelled here from Kuwait and back, we started inquiring into his involvement,” the DySP said, claiming that the man had posted the confession to become popular and garner sympathy. He added that the police department was inquiring into allegations of neglect on the part of the Obulavaripalli police.

Police have arrested the three accused, and seized their passports and the murder weapon, according to The New Indian Express
