A day after a shocking case of negligence surfaced from Andhra Pradesh, where a six-year-old boy died after falling into a vessel of piping hot sambar, the police and district education officials cracked down on the school where the incident took place.
The police arrested Vijayakumar Reddy and Naga Malleshwar Reddy, who were the Managing Director and Correspondent of the Vijayanikethan English Medium High School, where the boy was studying, in Panyam of Kurnool district.
A case had earlier been registered against the school management, under section 304 of the IPC for causing death by rash or negligent act. After an initial enquiry, the police had said that there seemed to be visible negligence in monitoring the dining hall, which led to the incident.
District educational officer Sai Ram, who launched a probe into the incident on the order of the District Collector, said that the school had a staggering 1,300 resident students, despite having no permission to operate a residential campus.
Stating that show-cause notices had been issued to the school, authorities said that they might suspend its recognition and shut it down.
The deceased Purushotham Reddy (6), who was studying in UKG, fell into the vessel on Wednesday during lunchtime. The boy was shifted to a local hospital initially, and later to the Kurnool General Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Purushotham hailed from Tippayipalli of Orvakal mandal.
His death had sparked anger in the area, as Purushotham's parents Shyamsunder Reddy, Kalpana and relatives along with student organisations, staged a protest at the school demanding justice.
"We have paid thousands in fees without negotiating in view of his future, but who will bring back my son? How can the boy fall into sambar? Why was no one guarding the students during lunchtime? Isn't this negligence?" Purushotham's father had told reporters earlier this week.
