Andhra Kapu stir: Seven accused remanded in judicial custody

Written by : PTI

A Kakinada court on Tuesday remanded seven persons, accused of indulging in violence during the Kapu community quota stir at Tuni in East Godavari district, in judicial custody until June 21.

The accused were produced before the designated court of special judge Shiva Shankar who remanded them in judicial custody.

The agitation for reservation to Kapus, spearheaded by Mudragada Padmanabham, had turned violent early this year with the community members setting a train, a police station and police vehicles on fire at Tuni.

Meanwhile, Mudragada and his supporters staged a sit-in protest in front of Amalapuram police station in East Godavari district on Tuesday evening demanding release of all the accused.

Mudragada has threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike from June 9 if police cases registered against his community members are not withdrawn by the government by tomorrow evening.
