Nellore and Prakasam districts in Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall for five days, from November 15 to 20, along with Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapur districts in the Rayalaseema region. On November 15, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that these regions will experience mostly dry weather, and will only receive light to moderate showers in one or two places over the next few days. 

Parts of Nellore and Tirupati districts witnessed heavy rainfall over the past three days. Many low-lying areas in Nellore were reportedly submerged by floodwaters. On Tuesday, November 15, Udayagiri mandal (49mm) and Nellore city (25.5) received the highest rainfall in Nellore district. However, this was much lesser than the rainfall recorded in the city on an average in the last three days 64.5mm to 105.5 mm. 

Speaking to TNM, IMD Andhra Pradesh meteorologist Venkat Rao said: “The average rainfall is below normal in the south coastal areas and Rayalaseema region. Some parts received heavy rainfall and caused water clogging. This week, the regions will experience better weather conditions”.

Nellore city was severely flooded during the past few days. Commuters throughout the city were impacted. According to media reports, due to overflow of the clogged drains, the residents of Ummareddy Gunta, Balaji Nagar, Nawabpeta, Janardhan Reddy colony and Bhagat Singh colony were unable to leave their homes. Normal life was severely affected as a result of the disruption to movement of people and vehicles in vulnerable areas in Nellore district. 

Some coastal areas in Tirupati district also reported intermittent rains over the past three days. Meanwhile, Somasila reservoir in Nellore received a constant flow of almost 16,000 cusecs due to continuous rains during the past week.
