Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime police arrested a 32-year-old man from Nagapattinam on Wednesday night for criticizing State Fisheries Minister Jayakumar on social media.

G Sathish Kumar who hails from Nagapattinam was arrested on Wednesday for posting memes and posts against D Jayakumar.

A case was booked under Section 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and Section 505 ((1) (b)) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquility) of the Indian Penal Code.

He was brought to Chennai for questioning by Cyber Crime officials. Sathish, whose father is an AIADMK member, runs an internet browsing centre and his father Ganesan is panchayat secretary of Narayanapuram village.

Police told The New Indian Express that they acted on a tip-off on the posts and they arrested Sathish. However, it is also said that Sathish criticized Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami too on his Facebook page.

TNM tried contacting the Cyber Crime cell about the details of the post but they refused to comment on it.

Last year, eight people were arrested by the Tamil Nadu police for allegedly spreading rumours about former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s health when she was admitted at the Apollo hospital.
