VK Sasikala's husband, M Natarajan, who was critically ill, has undergone a dual organ transplantation at a Chennai hospital on Wednesday.

Natarajan is stable following the seven-and-a-half-hour liver and kidney transplant operation, reported Times of India

The Times of India reported that a critically ill patient who had been admitted to the Thanjavur Medical college was airlifted and brought to the Gleneagles Global Hospital in Chennai on Tuesday.

"The 19-year-old hails from Pudukottai and was in an accident.  He had been taken to the Thanjavur Medical college and then brought to Chennai in an ambulance. He was declared brain dead after his admission at Chennai hospital," a source told TNM.

After the teenager was brought into the hospital and declared brain dead, the Transplant Authority Government of Tamil Nadu (TANSTAN) was informed by the hospital about the donor.

Sources told The News Minute that the transplantation is still going on. Natarajan was admitted to the Gleneagles Global Hospital in Perumbakkam on September 10 after suffering multiple organ failure.

A senior doctor from the Global Gleneagles Hospital told ToI that they will be using the teenager's organs after getting permission from TRANSTAN as both have O positive blood group.

 Sasikala's parole

VK Sasikala has applied for 15-day-parole to visit her husband. Though initially it had been reported that the parole had been rejected, sources in the police department said that the rejection was only because certain documents had been missing.

Once the documents are submitted, VK Sasikala may get parole.

 Natarajan's health

Natarajan has been receiving treatment at the Gleneagles Global Hospital for the last nine months. In a health bulletin released on Monday night, the hospital said that his health condition is said to be critical with worsening liver failure and kidney failure.

According to a press release issued by hospital on Monday, “Currently, he is admitted at the Liver Intensive Care Unit, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, under the team headed by Professor Mohamed Rela, with worsening liver failure, kidney failure and lung congestion and his condition remains critical.”

It also stated that his liver function has deteriorated further and he is encephalopathic.  However, the hospital had also mentioned that Natarajan was receiving dialysis, medication to support blood pressure and other care and he is currently not on ventilator support.

He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in February after he complained of breathing problems.
