On Monday, Mamallapuram police arrested three people, including the brother-in-law and a black magic practitioner for allegedly murdering a newly married man and burying his mutilated body on the Palar riverbed last month.

The deceased, Karthik, (27) was married to Rangeela who is the sister of accused Dilli Babu’s wife Ranjitha. The accused told the police that Dilli Babu and Ranjitha had encroached upon the ancestral property which belonged to Rangeela, The Times of India reported.

On October 8, Dilli Babu had invited Karthik to his house in Suleri Kadu near Mamallapuram and warned Karthik not to ask for the property. But Karthi refused to adhere to it.

After this, Dilli Babu invited Karthik to the Palar riverbed to discuss the issue. The other two accused, black magic practitioner Sudhakar, (29) and his brother Vinoth Kumar, (26) were also present there.

The three of them murdered Karthik and mutilated his body to perform a sacrifice. Follwing this, Sudhakar carried out a special puja with his body parts and buried them on the riverbed.

On October 27, police arrested Dilli Babu after witnesses told them that Karthik was last seen with him. After Dilli Babu’s confession, police recovered Karthik’s body parts from the riverbed.

Earlier the police suspected that Dilli Babu alone would have carried out the murder. When police interrogated him further, he told them about the involvement of Sudhakar and Vinoth Kumar.

They have been produced before a magistrate court and remanded in prison.
